Melbourne to Adelaide removalists

Your furniture goes to Adelaide in a truck that carries your job and nobody else’s, loaded and unloaded by the same crew. One fixed price, agreed before the move.

Dedicated trucks

One truck and one crew, all the way

Melbourne to Adelaide is about 730 km by road, out along the Western Highway and over the border at Bordertown, and your furniture makes the whole trip in a dedicated truck. We only do dedicated jobs, so no other customer’s job is added on the way. We load your job and leave straight for the unload.

The crew that loads your truck in Melbourne is the crew that unloads it in Adelaide. We don’t send one person with the truck and hire casual helpers for a few hours at the other end, so if an insurance claim is ever needed, there’s no argument over who handled what. Moving Folks is owner-operated, and the owner loads every job personally, with care and precision. Our interstate truck is a 12-tonne truck with about 48 cubic metres of space, so a typical full house fits comfortably.

Packing for South Australia’s quarantine rules

South Australia has a zero-tolerance policy on restricted fruit, vegetables and plants. On PIRSA’s list for travellers from Victoria, you can’t bring in fresh fruit (melons and pineapples aside), avocados, tomatoes, capsicums, chillies, eggplants or soil. Canned, frozen and dried fruit and vegetables are fine. Pot plants, citrus plants and potatoes need a call to the Fruit Fly Hotline on 1300 666 010 first, as do used fruit and vegetable cartons, so pack in proper moving boxes. Before packing day, run down the fruit bowl and fridge, and clean the dirt off garden pots, tools and outdoor furniture. If you’re driving over yourself, there’s a quarantine disposal bin on the Dukes Highway near Bordertown. Random roadblocks are set up after the bins, and you’ll be fined if you’re caught with restricted items.

No waiting on anyone else’s move

Some interstate movers share one truck between several customers’ jobs. We don’t. Nobody else’s pickup or drop-off holds up your load, so there are no waiting days and no hotel nights in Adelaide waiting for your furniture. Delivery takes as long as the road trip itself, and we can share the truck’s live location while it’s on its way. If you need your things stored for a couple of days before delivery, we can organise that, because we have a few trucks.

Getting your fixed price

If you’re leaving Melbourne for Adelaide, we can visit to check all your furniture and the access, or you can send photos of your furniture and both full addresses instead. For a move from South Australia to Victoria, we work out the price from photos of your furniture and both full addresses. Whichever way, you get one fixed price, agreed before the move. Dismantling and reassembly is available on request and quoted separately, and we supply moving boxes at a good price. We’ll share all our insurance documents, and it’s worth asking any removalist for theirs before you book. Look us up by the name MovingFolks on Google, Facebook, hipages and ServiceSeeking to read the reviews.

Licence and rego once you’re in Adelaide

Once you’ve moved to South Australia, you have 3 months to transfer your Victorian driver’s licence at a Service SA centre, and 3 months to apply for SA registration for a Victorian-registered car, trailer, caravan or motorbike. Hand in the Victorian plates at any Service SA centre, then apply to the Victorian transport authority for a refund of any unexpired registration in your name.
