Interstate · Melbourne to Perth

Melbourne to Perth removalists

A dedicated truck that carries only your household, from your Melbourne home to your new place in Perth, loaded and unloaded by the same crew for an easy, stress-free move.

Why dedicated

Your own truck for the long road west

Perth is a long way from Melbourne, so how your move is run matters. Some interstate movers share one truck between several customers’ jobs. We don’t. Your belongings travel in a dedicated 12-tonne truck with about 48 cubic metres of space, so a typical full house fits comfortably. We load your job and leave straight for the unload, with no other jobs added on the way: no detours, no waiting days and no hotel nights spent waiting for your furniture.

The crew that loads your home in Melbourne unloads it in Perth. We don’t send one person with the truck and hire casual helpers at the other end. One crew is responsible from start to finish, so there’s no argument over who handled what if an insurance claim is ever needed. Moving Folks is owner-operated, and the owner loads every job personally, with care and precision.

  • ✓A dedicated truck: no other jobs on board
  • ✓The same crew loads in Melbourne and unloads in Perth
  • ✓One fixed price, quoted from photos or a visit
  • ✓Storage for a couple of days if you need it

The road west, across the Nullarbor

By road, the way to Perth crosses the Nullarbor on the Eyre Highway, which runs from Port Augusta through Ceduna and past Eucla, near the WA border, to Norseman. For scale, the NRMA puts the drive from Adelaide to Perth at about 2,770 km, and Melbourne is further east again. Crossing into Western Australia also means a different time zone. On a road this long, a truck that carries only your job and leaves straight for the unload keeps the move simple. Delivery takes as long as the drive west, and we can share the truck’s live location so you can follow it all the way.

Quarantine WA at Eucla: what to declare

Quarantine WA’s road checkpoint at Eucla, on the Eyre Highway, operates 24 hours. When you move personal effects into WA, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) says you should complete a Declaration for movement of personal goods into WA (form QWA-059) in conjunction with your removalist. Its checklist includes fresh fruit and vegetables, plants (including household plants and bulbs), soil and potting mix, honey and beekeeping equipment, and used garden tools such as lawnmowers and whipper snippers. Declared items are to be packed at the entry of the container, goods may be inspected on arrival, and inspection fees and charges may apply. DPIRD also says outdoor items should be checked for soil, and shoes and boots thoroughly cleaned. We’ll help you fill in the declaration, so tell us about anything on that list when you ask for your quote.

After you arrive in Western Australia

If you’re moving to WA to live, you must apply for a WA driver’s licence within 3 months of becoming a WA resident. A car licensed in another state must be inspected at an Authorised Inspection Station before WA will license it, and WA only licenses a vehicle that is primarily kept there.

Storage, furniture, boxes and insurance

If you need your things stored for a couple of days before delivery, we can organise that, because we have a few trucks. Dismantling and reassembly of furniture is available on request, quoted separately, and we supply moving boxes at a good price. We’ll share all our insurance documents, and it’s worth asking any removalist for theirs before you book. You can look us up as MovingFolks on Google, Facebook, hipages and ServiceSeeking and read the reviews.

Good to know

Moving questions, answered.

Will my furniture share a truck with other people’s moves to Perth?
No. We only do dedicated jobs and never mix another customer’s job with yours. We load your home and leave straight for the unload, so there are no detours to collect other loads, no waiting days and no hotel nights spent waiting for your furniture to turn up.
How long will my furniture take to reach Perth?
As long as the drive itself. Your move is dedicated, so we load your home and head straight for the unload, with no other loads to collect or drop off along the way. We can share the truck’s live location, so you can see where your furniture is on the long road west.
How do you price a Melbourne to Perth move?
If you’re moving from Melbourne to Perth, you can have us come out to check all your furniture and the access, or send photos of your furniture and both full addresses. For a Perth to Melbourne move, the quote comes from photos of your furniture and both full addresses. However we quote, it’s one fixed price, agreed before the move. Dismantling and reassembly, if you need it, is quoted separately.
What do I need to declare to Quarantine WA?
DPIRD’s form QWA-059 asks whether your load contains goods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and bulbs, soil or potting mix, honey or beekeeping equipment, and used garden tools. We’ll help you fill in the form, so let us know if any of these are in your load. Goods may be inspected on arrival into WA, inspection fees and charges may apply, and a false or misleading statement may result in an infringement notice.
Can I take pot plants, fruit or honey to Perth?
Honey is prohibited unless certified on a Health Certificate. Only some fresh fruit and vegetables are permitted, such as pineapple, carrots and peeled onions, and they must be free of sprouting green growth, soil, pests and disease. Some high-risk plants may not be allowed into WA, and household plants must be declared. If in doubt, call Quarantine WA on 08 9334 1800 before you pack.
Do you also move from Perth to Melbourne?
Yes, from Perth and anywhere in Western Australia to Melbourne and anywhere in Victoria. We do those moves as dedicated full truckloads only, so nobody else’s things share your truck. For the quote, we just need photos of your furniture and both full addresses.
How long do I have to switch to a WA driver’s licence?
You must apply within 3 months of becoming a WA resident. If your interstate licence is current, or expired less than 5 years ago, you can transfer it without theory or driving tests. Visit a DTMI service centre or regional agent with a completed DLA1 form, your licence card, original identity documents including your birth certificate, and proof of WA residence such as a utility bill.
What do I need to do to register my car in WA?
WA calls it licensing a vehicle. A car licensed in another state must first be inspected at an Authorised Inspection Station. You then apply in person at a DTMI service centre or regional agent with Form VL17 and the Certificate of Inspection, and you might need to hand in your old plates. WA only licenses a vehicle that is primarily kept there.
